  • 2 Walker Street Kittery, ME 03904 (map)

Chasing Light and Color - Plein Air Workshop with Deena S. Ball
Thursday, June 25th from 10am-4pm
The Kittery Art Association Art Hub (Lower Level Studio Space)

This workshop is ideal for painters who want to loosen up, work more intuitively, and build confidence painting on location. Through instructor demonstrations, guided practice, and individualized feedback, artists will learn to simplify complex scenes into strong value shapes, build dynamic compositions, and respond creatively to changing light and weather. The focus is on painting what you see and feel, not chasing perfection, while building practical skills you can take anywhere. This plein air workshop is designed for advanced beginner and beyond students, who are ready to paint outdoors with confidence, energy, and intention. Demonstrations will be in watercolor. The lessons in the workshop can be applied to any medium and students can work in the medium of their choice.

By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
• Simplify outdoor scenes into clear shapes and value patterns
• Capture changing light and color quickly and effectively
• Create strong, engaging compositions in a limited amount of time
• Mix and adjust color on the fly to convey atmosphere and mood
• Use expressive, efficient brushwork suited to plein air conditions
• Work confidently and flexibly in unpredictable outdoor environments

Registration Fee: $140

This class is subject to minimum enrollment of 6 students. Please register as soon as possible to insure that the workshop can run. In the event of a cancellation, the Kittery Art Association will notify students and issue a full refund.
