BUOY TREE 2025
In Memory of Harold Niles
This year’s Buoy Tree will be dedicated to a local lobsterman who will be remembered as one of Kittery’s well loved characters. Harold Niles will be dearly missed.
Steve Lawrence and Kelly Lynne were the first to bring the Buoy Tree to Kittery, and this year’s tree will be located in Kittery Foreside in front of The Kittery Art Association. We are so excited to host the Buoy Tree during this Holiday Season, and our members are taking on the community project. Proceeds from the sales of buoys will go towards cancer treatments for Jen Gray and the KAA’s Marcia Abigail Ryder Scholarship, which was created in 2008 to perpetuate Marcia’s work inspiring and encouraging young artists in the Seacoast who wish to pursue their interest and education in the arts.
Make a donation of $20 and sponsor a buoy for the Buoy Tree:
In the past, we have requested a donation of $30. This year, in order to keep the donation request at $20, we are reusing the buoys that had been left behind rather than purchasing new, unused buoys.
You can either pick up a buoy from The Kittery Art Association to decorate at home, or come to the Art Hub (lower level studio space) at designated times, where Betsy Wish and other KAA Members will be on hand to help you decorate. If you are picking up a buoy to decorate yourself, you are welcome to stop into the gallery anytime during our regular open hours. There is a station near the back door, facing the parking lot behind the gallery, where you will find a place to make your $20 donation, fill out your form, and pick up your blank buoy. Please leave your donation (cash or check only, please make checks payable to “Kittery Art Association” with “Buoy Tree” in the memo) in an envelope with your name and contact info. When you have completed your buoy, please drop them off in the bin labeled “Completed Buoys” next to where you picked up your blank buoy. The deadline to drop off completed buoys for the tree is Sunday, November 30th.
If you would prefer to come to the Art Hub to decorate your buoy or have an artist decorate a buoy for you, we will be holding two workshop sessions: Wednesday, November 12th from 6-8pm and Friday, November 14th from 10am-12pm. Paints, brushes, stencils, and the space to paint will be provided!
Make a buoy in memory of a family member or friend, for your business, or just for the fun of finding your buoy on the tree this year!
